Tagansky Protected Command Point
For those fascinated by the secret side of communist Moscow, the newly opened Tagansky Protected Command Point is worth a visit. Some 60 metres below ground, the bunker and associated tunnel was built in the 1950s as a communications headquarters for the party leadership and military officials. Up to 3,000 people could live and work in its depths, sustained by generators and an air-recycling system. The bunker fell into disrepair in the late 1980s, when money for its maintenance ran out. But there is plenty to interest any amateur historian here, including some preserved artefacts. The bunker’s private owners now hope to transform a section into a museum about the cold war.
Tagansky Protected Command Point is at 11, 5th Kotelnichesky Per, underneath camouflage netting. Metro: Taganskaya. Excursions to the bunker can be arranged by calling Olga Arkharova at +7 (495) 500-4641/2.
I've put the first link on the internet to the slide show of the only photos I could google up about them.
